There are 3 primary principles that Roots Montessori is founded upon, which we believe establish the foundation for a thriving school community.
The Montessori method of education, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood. Dr. Montessori’s Method has been time tested, with over 100 years of success in diverse cultures throughout the world.
It is a view of the child as one who is naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a supportive, thoughtfully prepared learning environment. It is an approach that values the human spirit and the development of the whole child—physical, social, emotional, cognitive.
We add “authentic” to our description to ensure adherence to the Montessori principles set forth by our accrediting agency, American Montessori Society (AMS). You can read more about the value of this here.
We believe that each person is created by, loved by and sought by God. We believe that our relationship with Him is through faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Our school is welcoming to people of any and all beliefs and backgrounds, but consistently and persistently operates in an environment that celebrates our relationship to God in Christ.
Our Christian values are lived out through daily prayer circle, weekly spiritual lesson and the interweaving of God’s loving truths in the day to day operations of the school.
Roots is committed to bridging the growing socioeconomic chasms in our society and building a socioeconomic diverse school community. We work towards being a school that intentionally removes social and economic barriers.
We do this through our Bridge the Gap program (launching in the 2019/20 academic year) – which provides opportunity for financial assistance to make a Montessori education affordable to those who may not otherwise be able to provide it.
